Caissons also referred to as drilled shafts are typically larger diameter elements, 18 to 72 inches in diameter. They are typically used to transfer large concentrated structural loads to suitable soils or rock. These large diameter elements are drilled to suitable soils and filled with concrete and a rebar cage or steel beam. Caissons can also be utilized as a quick shallow foundation for noise barrier walls, roof supports or solar foundations.
